Thomas Jefferson stood here in 1783 and called the view "stupendous." A short steep climb from Lower Town rewards you with a panoramic view of the river confluence and the Blue Ridge stretching to the horizon. Total payoff for the effort.
Harpers Ferry sits at the emotional midpoint of the 2,190-mile AT. You don't need to hike it all — a few miles in either direction delivers ridge views and dense forest. The pedestrian bridge into town is a journey on its own. Dogs who hike the AT here are officially halfway heroes.

No designated off-leash areas within the National Park. Best bet is your cabin's private acreage — all three of our recommended stays offer room to run. Ask your host before arrival.
Downtown parking is extremely limited on fall weekends. Dogs are not allowed on shuttle buses. Arrive by 9am on busy days. Drive down early, park, and walk the rest.
