Why Harpers Ferry

Perched at the dramatic confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, Harpers Ferry is one of the most visually striking towns on the East Coast. Cobblestone streets wind past 19th-century stone buildings, Civil War history breathes through every corner, and the Blue Ridge Mountains frame every view.

For dog owners, this is as close to perfect as a weekend destination gets. Trails run directly from town. Restaurant patios welcome dogs by default. The whole lower town is walkable on-leash — and once you get to your cabin, those mountains are yours off-leash.

"Thomas Jefferson stood at Jefferson Rock here in 1783 and called the view stupendous. He wasn't wrong. Bring your dogs. They'll agree."
